Hansard Society Trustees' Scholarship Awards
The Hansard Society Trustees have announced two Trustees Scholarship Awards for Summer 2010 scholars. The scholarships are worth £500(GBP) each and will be awarded on the basis of an essay competition. To enter the scholarship competition, applicants must submit a completed programme application and supporting documents along with a 1,000 competition essay no later than March 17, 2010.
Hansard Society Trustees’ Summer 2010 Scholarship Award Questions
Choose one (1) of the following questions and write and essay of approximately 1,000 words. It can be an opinion piece as long as at is supported with facts.
1) Compare Congressional Committees and House of Commons Select Committees in terms of power and influence.
2) Compare the respective levels of representation and power of women legislators in the US Congress and the British House of Commons.
3) In May 2009, the House of Commons was rocked by an expenses scandal arising out of the MPs’ allowances system. Could a similar crisis occur in the US Congress? Discuss.
